God is Love (1 John 4:7-21)

God is Love (1 John 4:7-21)

Once again, I want to write about the book of first John, as pretty much all of you know, for the past several weeks, I have been going through sections of verses from the book. I usually share the passage (or a link to it) and then write a few of my thoughts.

I want to do that again, I have written some of my thoughts on all of the passages leading up to 1 John 4:7-21, where we will be today.

Open up your Bible or click the reference I shared earlier, and read along as I share a few of my thoughts, feel free to chime in and comment too, it’s always good to hear from you guys.

Let’s begin, here’s that link again: 1 John 4:7-21

God’s love for us influences a love for fellow believers

John makes a good point in verse seven. Its pretty obvious what he is communicating, love is from God, and because of that we can love another.

When the Bible references to “one another” or “brother and sister” it is talking about fellow believers, as believers it’s a good thing to work together in unity. Because of our common goal, we won’t get anywhere without love for one another. Keep that in mind and strive to be in good relationships with other believers, as we all together seek to exalt Christ in everything we do.

God made His love obvious

In verse nine, it says God’s love was made manifest to us through the death (and resurrection) of Jesus Christ. I think Christ leaves a good example for us to follow. Showing love for fellow believers means taking action and overcoming our selfishness to please others, to show them Christ-like love.

Those who love God live in accordance

Multiple times, specifically in verse 20, John says that one cannot simply say he loves God yet not do anything to show His love for Him.

If we really love God, our actions will stand beside us and show others we truly love Him.

This has been sort of the theme for first John, we have read all about God’s love for us, and the example we have to follow, John is a pretty clear writer, making it quite simple for us to understand. If you’ve read all the posts in this little study so far you probably know exactly what I’m talking about. Those who love God, live in accordance with Him, and though they fail at times, they continue striving together in unity with both fellow believers and Christ, to work out His will for us.

I’d encourage you to think about these things this weekend, and even pray about it too, let’s all seek to live out our lives for Christ, exalting Him with everything we do.
